Prominent Twitch streamer Imen Ennis, known to viewers as Pokemon, has been banned from the platform, reportedly after streaming Nickelodeon. Pokemon addressed the sudden ban with a brief message on Twitter, writing, “The Fire Nation attacked.” His Twitch page is currently down and leads to a blank page with the message “That content is unavailable.” Initial rumors suggested that the copyright may have been the result of a DMCA infringement for streaming Nickelodeon material. Pokemon has since revealed that the ban is a temporary suspension, and will last 48 hours.
The ban marks an unfortunate start to the new year for the popular streamer, who had an eventful 2021. In December, Pokemon was forced to clarify a joke she said that “all the women are in the kitchen” after being accused of sexism. Rumors were also swirling that Pokemon was in a secret relationship after a mysterious man named ‘Kevin’ joined her stream, a previously unknown man who appeared to be in great chemistry with the Dreamer. Streaming copyrighted movies and shows is a tricky issue to navigate, although some streamers have gotten away with it.
