Twitter is testing a feature that lets you know how many times a user tweets a month. Reverse Engineers noticed this in development about a month ago, but this morning some Twitter users reported that they got access to this feature.

For those of us who already know that we’re wasting too much time on the app, this feature seems a little… intimidating. But it could probably be useful as a metric in determining whether to follow someone or not. If someone tweets thousands of times a month, maybe you don’t want them on your timeline — or if they don’t tweet at all, maybe you don’t think it’s worth unfollowing them.

Based on past research, it’s not surprising that the general reaction to this feature among dedicated users is horror at how much we tweet. In 2019, the Pew Research Center found that 10% of Twitter users create 80% of tweets on the platform. The study also found that the average Twitter user only posts twice a month. As of last quarter, Twitter had 237.8 million monetized daily active users.

Twitter did not respond to requests for comment, so it’s not clear how many people are participating in this feature test or if it will spread more widely. The platform is also testing features such as statuses as well as vote againstwhich are not yet fully developed.

So if you feel like Twitter’s “tweets per month” test has personally attacked you, you may be eligible for compensation. For legal reasons, this was a joke, although we assume that Twitter’s lawyers a little concerned Currently.
