kidding, this is a bad place
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes feel like Twitter is full of ads in my feed. Unfortunately, those ads aren’t enough for the company, though, because it’s testing a new place to show them: right in the middle of a conversation.
The new ad format is in testing on iOS and Android, and if you’re in testing you’ll see ads after the first, third, or eighth reply of a Tweet, According to Bruce FalkTwitter’s revenue product lead. He shared a GIF of how the new ads look during the conversation:
Starting today, we’re trying something a little different and testing a new ad format in Tweet conversations. If you’re part of this test (which is global; only on iOS and Android), you’ll see ads under Tweets after the first, third, or eighth reply. ️ pic.twitter.com/kvIGeYt2vp

The ad in conversation looks exactly as you’d expect, but I can’t say I’m a fan. Twitter can already be a pretty stimulating place, especially if I take a risk by tapping into potentially hot replies; I don’t know if I want to cognitively process ads among other junk like Elon Musk impersonators. Luckily, it looks like I haven’t been picked up for the test yet, so at least for now, any conversations I read are ad-free.
