Xbox’s 20th Anniversary Edition controller hides the Duke controller’s easter egg.
Right below, you can see a post that appeared on the official Xbox Series X subreddit. In the video accompanying the post, a user explains that if you shine a UV or black light on the packaging for the Xbox 20th Anniversary Edition controller, you can see the Duke controller on the box.
It’s an odd little easter egg, being embedded on the controller’s outer packaging, that most users will naturally throw away after opening, but it’s still a nice touch. If you’re unfamiliar with the Duke controller, it was the controller bundled with the original Xbox console, which was generally viewed as incredibly large and cumbersome at the time of release.
Since then, however, the duke has gained a sort of cult following, even though it is generally remembered as a very unpleasant technique to use. Although for the more recent controller, the Xbox 20th Anniversary Edition controllers were announced and released in late 2021 last year, in celebration of the 20th birthday of the first Xbox console in 2001.
As revealed last year, the Anniversary Edition controller actually gives users a special dynamic backdrop to both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, if you were lucky enough to get your hands on one. Unfortunately, limited-edition controllers have long since sold out, and you can buy them now for much more than their original retail price on sites like eBay.
