A Far Cry 6 player may have found a way to boost game performance, by simply turning off one overlay.
one in post on reddit, user Contrabirds said that when playing on PC, he disabled the overlay for Ubisoft Connect — the service that ties together Ubisoft’s loyalty program and desktop app — in an attempt to get rid of a notification bug.
Allegedly doing this “my FPS jumped and stabilized significantly” […] I found 60-ish fps below 48, almost 70-ish and no dips below 60.” Users say they were playing on a PC with some impressive specs, but they’re playing Far Cry. 6″ maxed out with every graphics setting.”
To turn off Ubisoft Connect on PC, you need to open Uplay, open the menu in the top-left corner of the screen, and go to Settings. From there, under the ‘General’ tab, uncheck the box “Enable in-game overlays for supported games”. If you currently have Far Cry 6 or any other Ubisoft game open, you will need to restart it before any changes take effect.
It’s currently unclear whether Ubisoft services are limiting performance on other platforms, but the impact of Ubisoft Connect is being felt less keenly, at least on the PS5. The software opens a browser page, but it doesn’t seem to be running in the background. GamesRadar+ found that the frame rate didn’t fluctuate or drop below 60fps during the entire playthrough.
